Are Dental Implants Painful? Your Questions Before a Consultation
Placing an implant is a surgical step, so it is fair to ask what it will feel like. At Diamond Bar Dental Studio, we offer anesthesia and sedation for patients who feel anxious. Nobody can promise how any one person will feel, so we talk it through with you first.
Below are the questions patients ask most before booking an implant consultation in Diamond Bar, answered from what our office actually does.
Comfort during implant treatment
Dental implants are a two-part process. First, a titanium artificial tooth root is placed into the jawbone by Dr. Cho or Dr. Jeon. A small "healing cap" then keeps the gum from growing over the implant while it settles in.
Because this is surgery, we offer anesthesia and sedation, which can help if the dentist's chair makes you nervous. Pain is personal, and how you feel will depend on your situation and on the plan we agree on together.
If fear has kept you from the dentist, say so when you call. Which kind of anesthesia or sedation suits you is something we settle at your consultation, not something to guess at online.
What we check at your first visit
The first thing we look at is how much healthy jawbone you have. A dental implant needs enough bone to hold it, and the dentists assess this during your examination. If bone is short, they may suggest a bone graft first.
We use an iTero intraoral scanner and digital X-rays, so you can see your teeth and jaw on screen while we explain your options. We also plan how many implants you need and what kind of replacement tooth or teeth will sit on them. These choices go together.
Our $99 new patient special covers an exam, panoramic X-rays, an iTero scan, an oral cancer screening and a consultation. It is not an implant-only package.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are dental implants painful?+
We can't promise how any individual will feel. Implant placement is surgery, and we offer anesthesia and sedation to keep anxious patients comfortable. Tell us about any dental fear when you book, and your dentist will explain what to expect for your case. Read more in risks and aftercare.
How long does the implant process take?+
It is a two-part process. The titanium root is placed in the jaw, then you wait six weeks to several months for it to integrate with the bone. Your own timeline depends on your bone and your treatment plan. See the full process.
What is recovery like after implant surgery?+
After placement, a healing cap protects the site while the implant bonds with the bone. We have no set recovery length to quote, since healing varies from person to person. Ask your dentist for aftercare instructions for your case.
Can I get an implant if I don't have enough bone?+
Often, yes, after a bone graft first. An implant won't integrate properly without enough bone, so your dentist checks this at your exam. Bone graft recovery usually takes about two to four months. See bone grafting.
What are All-on-4 implants?+
All-on-4 anchors a full row of replacement teeth on four implants. It can be done for the upper jaw, the lower jaw or both. Enough bone is the main requirement, and a graft may help if you lack it. See All-on-4.
How much do dental implants cost in Diamond Bar?+
We don't publish a price here because cost depends on how many implants you need and what goes on top of them. A bone graft adds a separate step. For several missing teeth, two or three implants can be more cost-effective than a fixed bridge. See cost factors.
Does insurance cover dental implants?+
We accept all PPO insurance. Whether your plan pays toward implants, and how much, depends on your plan, so please call us and have your plan details ready. See insurance and implants.
Who places implants near Diamond Bar?+
Dr. Cho or Dr. Jeon places implants at our office. Dr. Jeon also performs molar implant surgeries. Both dentists speak English and Korean. Learn more on our dentists page.
How long do dental implants last?+
With proper care, implants can last a very long time, even a lifetime, but no one can guarantee this. Regular check-ups with Dr. Cho or Dr. Jeon help keep them healthy.
